Rules of the International Tournament of Medieval Fencing
3rd July 2009
The duels will be judged by 4 side referees (judges), the head referee and the referee’s assistant.
10 a.m - direct elimination play
4 p.m. - 20 competitors will advance to the main play. They are awarded 30 € for taking part in the main programme.
Scoring apparatus:
Round of sixteen: to score 6 points
Quarter-final round: to score 6 points
Semi-final round: to score 6 points
Finals: to score 10 points
The winner of the round will advance to the next round.
The winner of the finals becomes the tournament winner.
General conditions of participation in the tournament and tournament rules:
1. Payment of a tournament fee 5 €.
2. Sign the tournament rules.
3. Meet the tournament conditions.
Compulsory blood alcohol concentration testing (0% is requested)
4. The participants have to start and finish the competition in the same equipment and armour, i.e. the participants are forbidden to add or to reduce protecting armour parts.
5. Full-body plate armour or half-body plate armour + chainmail, plate gauntlets, helm, chain hood + massive protection of the neck.
6. Possibilities of using weapons in the duels:
one-handed sword
one-handed sword + dagger
one-handed sword + shield
one-handed sword + one-handed sword
one and half handed sword
7. Passing through the aisle of sticks and staffs in the armour.
8. Public promise before the tournament:
„I will play fair and I accept the rules of the tournament.“
9. The participants enter the tournament duels at their own risk and at their own responsibility, they completely accept the possibility of accidents and injuries and signing the tournament rules they commit themselves not to claim damages from the opponent in the case of causing an accident. The participants are suggested to get the supplemental health insurance.
10. The opponents are requested to salute before each duel.
11. The opponents are requested to knee and provide the sword for the checking to the head referee before each duel.
12. Hits and touches by swords in the face are strictly forbidden.
13. Brutal attacks are forbidden and are strictly judged by the referees. In case of their presence in a duel the opponent scores.
14. Scoring apparatus of hits:
3 points - hits on the helm, the neck or disarming the opponent
2 points - hits on the body and the shoulders
1 point - hits on the hands and the legs
15. Hits under the knee level are not included in scoring.
Concluding terms and provisions of the agreement
1. The tournament rules become valid by signing the agreement on both sides.
2. The tournament rules are signed by all tournament participants and thus they declare their agreement.
3. The participants declare to have read and have understood the tournaments rules without being put under time pressure or inconvenient conditions and therefore they sign the agreement.
